Argentina approves Glencore's Agua Rica copper project under RIGI

The outlet reported that Glencore put the project's capital cost at $4 billion. Glencore had applied for RIGI benefits for the project in August 2025.
RIGI was launched in 2024 for investments of at least $200 million in sectors including mining, energy and infrastructure. It offers a 25% corporate income tax rate instead of 35%, duty-free imports, and foreign-exchange and tax stability, The Northern Miner reported.
Mining.com.au reported that Argentina's government expects construction at MARA to begin in November 2027 and operations to start in October 2031, with about $771 million invested in the first two years.
Industrial Info Resources reported a forecast of 200,000 tonnes of contained copper a year over the project's first 10 years. For investors, the approval changes the project's regulatory status rather than its near-term output or cash flow. Royal Gold, relaying Glencore's December 2025 update, said a final investment decision on MARA was targeted for the second half of 2027.
