The chief executive of United Parcel Service said average daily U.S. volume will be lower in the fourth quarter than in the same period a year earlier.
The quarter had 65 operating days, against 64 a year earlier. For the first nine months of 2026, average daily U.S. domestic volume was 15,884,000, against 16,707,000 a year earlier.
UPS reported third-quarter revenue of $22.90 billion, against $22.51 billion expected. It expects fourth-quarter revenue of about $25.7 billion.
The fourth-quarter volume decline extends the demand softness UPS has flagged through the year. It also removes any hope of a peak-season rebound, the usual offset to slower stretches. The company is under operational scrutiny over security lapses in its logistics chain, which adds pressure on management while package counts are already falling. A weaker holiday season makes it less likely that the year finishes stronger than the rest of it, and it raises the question of how much of the volume loss is structural and how much is seasonal.
