Anthropic plans to spend more than $600 billion on compute
The commitment, reported by the Wall Street Journal, is the largest compute pledge yet disclosed by an AI lab.

The figure extends a pattern already visible elsewhere in the industry. Broadcom has booked chip backlog tied to orders from OpenAI and Anthropic, and Amazon has agreed to pay for AI capacity and chips well before any of it can be used. Anthropic's number dwarfs those prior commitments and signals that the company expects demand, and the funding to match it, to scale accordingly.
The spending plan surfaces as Anthropic is said to be weighing an initial public offering as soon as November, giving prospective investors a concrete sense of the capital intensity behind the business they would be buying into. The open question is whether financing keeps pace at this scale, or strains credit markets the way CoreWeave's debt load already has, a risk that matters directly for the chipmakers, cloud providers and power suppliers whose earnings depend on the buildout continuing.
