Mueller Industries misses on profit, beats on revenue in Q3
Revenue of $1.42bn topped estimates of $1.30bn even as earnings per share fell short

Mueller Industries reported third-quarter earnings per share of $1.00 under GAAP, missing expectations by $0.06. Revenue came in at $1.42bn, ahead of the $1.30bn analysts had forecast.
Chief executive Greg Christopher said earnings growth was driven by stronger performance across all three business segments, with healthy demand and growing backlogs led by data center expansion in the United States, even as residential construction remains in a prolonged decline.
The company bought back 3.2 million shares for $201.9 million during the quarter, taking year-to-date repurchases to 4.5 million shares.
The miss on earnings alongside the beat on revenue points to margin pressure even as volumes outperform, a split that complicates how the market reads demand for industrial metals. Management's framing, growth concentrated in data centre construction while housing-linked demand for copper and brass keeps shrinking, suggests a structural shift in end markets toward infrastructure spending. The scale of the buybacks indicates management views the earnings miss as temporary rather than a sign that fundamentals are deteriorating. Whether data centre backlogs can keep offsetting the residential slump is the question for coming quarters.
