Ally Financial reported third-quarter earnings per share of $1.34, three cents below expectations. Revenue was $2.35 billion, in line with forecasts.
The company's board approved a fourth-quarter dividend of $0.35 per share, up from $0.30 paid in the third quarter.
It is the second straight quarter Ally has missed on earnings. In the second quarter of 2026 the company posted EPS of $1.21 against a forecast of $1.25, itself up from $0.99 a year earlier, according to Public.com earnings data. Ally reported $200 billion in assets and 9.6 million customers as of June 30, 2026, and its market capitalisation stood at $12.26 billion ahead of the latest results, according to Pluang.
The three-cent shortfall is small enough that it is unlikely to reshape the near-term earnings story on its own. But raising the payout while profit falls short signals that management sees its capital position as solid enough to return more cash to shareholders, a stance that could draw scrutiny if the earnings miss repeats. Investors are likely to focus less on this quarter's print than on whether the higher dividend holds up against any further softening in consumer credit trends in the quarters ahead.
