Iran's navy said a tanker it accused of violating its rules caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Tasnim. The report did not specify which rule or order the vessel was said to have broken.
The fire extends a run of incidents in the strait that has climbed from roughly weekly through September to nearly daily by mid-October, adding to a list of mine strikes, a container-ship sinking and tanker attacks already logged there.
An IRGC spokesman has said the strait is not yet completely closed, even as those incidents have kept traffic depressed, and has threatened to widen the blockade to the Bab al-Mandeb strait and the Suez Canal. Iran's navy has separately said US forces struck its Konark naval base, a claim Washington has not confirmed, and Iranian officials have said the country has no choice but to assert control over Hormuz.
Transit through the strait has already been reported far below the roughly 125 vessels a day that passed before the conflict. Each new incident reinforces that the corridor remains actively contested, keeping crude oil's existing risk premium supported with no sign that the standoff over the blockade has moved.
