Equifax reported third-quarter earnings of $2.26 a share, $0.04 above expectations, on revenue of $1.69 billion, short of the $1.71 billion forecast. Shares fell 1.9% to $155.50 in pre-market trading.
The company lowered its full-year 2026 revenue guidance midpoint to $6.661 billion, citing a weaker US mortgage market in the back half of the year. It kept its full-year adjusted earnings per share guidance close to intact, trimming the midpoint by just $0.04.
Chief Executive Mark W. Begor said Equifax is managing costs and pushing AI-based efficiencies to offset the weaker mortgage revenue and protect the earnings outlook.
The gap between the size of the revenue cut and the much smaller earnings trim suggests management views the mortgage slowdown as a volume problem it can absorb internally rather than one that erodes margins. Mortgage-related demand has stayed soft as US mortgage rates remain elevated, and how much further Equifax can lean on cost cuts will depend on whether that activity recovers heading into next year.
