Israel Hayom reports that Saudi Arabia has offered the Houthis $1 billion to halt attacks. The paper reports that Iran brokered the offer.
Saudi Arabia has already been in direct contact with the group. That outreach runs through the Mecca Pact channel. A Saudi transport plane has also landed in Tehran.
Earlier mediation by Oman, Russia, China and Iran has produced stalled talks, while the strike campaign has escalated. The offer would cover strikes on airports and Aramco sites.
Talks to reopen the Strait of Hormuz have stalled. Tehran says the US blockade of Iran must be lifted first. Iran says the blockade of its southern ports has cut its imports by 25 per cent. The US is sending a third aircraft carrier strike group and 10,000 more personnel toward the Persian Gulf.
Higher energy costs have been the main way the conflict has reached broader equities. If the payment halted strikes on airports and Aramco sites, it would remove that channel.
