AutoZone said Jamere Jackson has resigned as its chief financial officer. He leaves on November 25, 2026, to become chief financial officer of FedEx Corporation.
The company has begun an external search for a successor. Until one is named, J. Scott Murphy, the vice president and controller, will serve as principal accounting officer and principal financial officer. The principal accounting officer is the person responsible for the company's accounts.
Phil Daniele, president and chief executive officer, said he is "confident the experienced, deeply tenured, finance and accounting team we have will ensure seamless continuity."
For investors, the change matters most for who runs the finance function while the search is open. Murphy's appointment keeps day-to-day reporting with someone already inside the company. Daniele's statement suggests management expects continuity, and the permanent hire will test that view. Whether the new chief financial officer changes the company's approach to reporting or to capital allocation is the next point to watch.
