Trump says US military operations against Iran are going very well
Trump has pledged not to strike Iran before the November 3 election, while the Pentagon holds a strike directive with no date.
Trump says US military operations against Iran are going very well, while holding to a pledge not to strike before the November 3 election. The blockade on Iran remains in full force.
Newsmax reports, citing officials it does not name, that the US plans to strike Iran after next week's elections.
Iran rejected Washington's seven-day plan for the Strait of Hormuz on October 28. It called the terms "unacceptable demands".
Trump has described the war in similar terms before. On September 28 he said the US will win "very soon" and predicted lower gas prices. On October 9 he said the situation will end soon and that prices will fall after the war. No signed deal or confirmed Iranian concession has followed those statements.
Planning continues behind the pledge. Trump has directed CENTCOM to draft a strike plan with no deadline. The Pentagon has drafted a three-day plan, and Trump had already rejected five others. On October 23 he said the US may conduct another operation against Iran. US and Israeli officials expect a week-long bombing if there is no deal, Axios reported. The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump has told aides he expects to resume bombing by the end of November.
For crude oil, the no-strike pledge has held the risk premium lower since October 8.
