Trump administration holds talks on a temporary peace deal, Semafor reports
Published
Semafor reports that the Trump administration is in ongoing talks for a temporary peace deal.
Earlier talks this year involving Russia, Ukraine and related sanctions issues have produced incremental or contested outcomes rather than a settlement. They include discussions over Lukoil assets and disputed comments by Steve Witkoff on Putin, made on 3 October and 21 October.
A temporary arrangement, if it took hold, would reduce one source of geopolitical uncertainty that has weighed on risk sentiment, and equities would be broadly positioned to benefit from a smaller war-risk premium. Whether that happens depends on whether any terms go beyond the statements about process that have marked earlier rounds.
