Yemen's Houthis claimed a ballistic missile strike on the airport on October 8. The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted two ballistic missiles aimed at the capital that same morning. The Houthis repeated the claim the next day, saying they had again hit the airport with two missiles, though Saudi Arabia did not confirm that attack. Separately, Saudi fatalities at the airport were confirmed early on October 9, at 03:41 local time.
Saudi oil output and pipeline flows have held through the earlier rounds of strikes on the airport. The US statement moves the episode from a disputed Houthi claim to an acknowledged incident on Washington's radar, keeping attention on whether strikes on the capital's infrastructure continue rather than staying confined to provincial border areas. The question now is whether repeated hits on the same airport begin to test that resilience, rather than simply adding another claim to the list.
