Tesla sold 95,366 China-made vehicles in September, CPCA says
China's auto industry group reports the tally for Tesla's Shanghai-built cars, a month after the company posted stronger than expected global deliveries

China's Passenger Car Association said Tesla sold 95,366 vehicles made at its Shanghai plant in September.
The figure lands a week after Tesla reported 486,532 total deliveries for the third quarter, beating the roughly 463,761 vehicles Wall Street had expected. That beat was concentrated in core Model 3 and Model Y volume rather than spread across the rest of the lineup, and the new China number does not change that picture. It adds a regional data point rather than a new signal.
Tesla's China business has been under pressure this year. Domestic retail sales in the country fell to a multi-year low in the first half of 2026, down 9% from a year earlier to 238,955 vehicles, even as exports from Chinese-built plants surged 127% over the same period, according to Electrek. The broader market was also soft in September: CPCA estimated China's passenger car retail sales at about 1.69 million for the month, down 24.6% from a year earlier, a figure CnEVPost noted was measured against a high base of 2.241 million in September 2025.
For investors, the September tally does not touch the two questions currently hanging over the stock, Cybercab certification and the production problems around Optimus. It leaves Tesla's vehicle demand picture as already described, with the quarter's strength still resting on Model 3 and Model Y rather than new programs.
