About 50% of the move can be explained by reports of attacks on shipping around the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards Navy said three tankers caught fire after hitting mines, while other reports claimed a supertanker hit a mine on October 30. Iran's navy also said it destroyed a US unmanned vessel, which the US has not confirmed.
Reports of US military preparation added to the move. Newsmax reported that the US plans to strike Iran after next week's elections, and The Wall Street Journal reported that a top admiral briefed President Trump on options for an attack. According to Israeli media, ten US Air Force transport planes landed at Israeli air bases, part of a wider movement of military gear around the Middle East.
Russia and Ukraine accounts for about a quarter of the sentiment drop.
A strike on the Dnipro rail station killed at least 13 people, while Kyiv's mayor said the city was under attack from Russian ballistic missiles, and the IAEA said a drone attack killed an employee of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear plant. Ukraine said it struck Russia's Novokuibyshevsk refinery, and Russia's Novak said Ukrainian attacks had resumed after a pause.
The rest is explained by other stories that made an impact: The Houthis claimed an attack on Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura refinery, with no immediate Saudi confirmation. North Korea fired around 10 short-range ballistic missiles, triggered by a dispute over a landmine blast that injured three South Korean soldiers, and US-South Korea air drills that North Korea's defence ministry called escalatory. Saudi Arabia issued civil-defense alerts, and China's military patrolled around Scarborough Shoal.
Diplomatic news on the other hand side limited the fall. US Envoy Tom Barrack said Washington is "very close" to an agreement with Iran. Semafor reported ongoing talks on a temporary peace deal.
