Dominion Energy beats on revenue and says 2026 earnings will land in the top half of its range
The utility reaffirmed every other target, so the update sharpens where it expects to finish within its $3.45 to $3.69 guidance rather than resetting it.
Chart: D, one-minute prices, three sessions
Dominion Energy reported third-quarter operating earnings of $1.28 a share, $0.04 above expectations, and told investors it now expects 2026 results in the top half of its $3.45 to $3.69 range. That puts the likely outcome above the $3.57 midpoint, and it is the part of the release that matters more than the quarter.
The revenue beat is the larger surprise: $5.62bn against $5.00bn expected. But a top line that far ahead of forecast says little on its own about the year, and the release does not settle whether it will repeat. The guidance language is the firmer signal, because it is management's own forecast and it moved in the right direction.
It moved only within bounds, though. Dominion reaffirmed its operating earnings, credit, dividend and long-term growth guidance, so the range it set earlier in the year stands. The company had already held that $3.45 to $3.69 range after the second quarter, according to 24/7 Wall St. Narrowing the expected landing zone is a modest step, not a raise.
On a reported basis the quarter was also stronger than a year ago. Dominion's net income under US accounting rules was $1.2bn, or $1.30 a share, against $1.0bn, or $1.16 a share, in the third quarter of 2025, according to its results release.
The sector backdrop is similar. OGE Energy also beat on revenue, with $1.16bn against $1.11bn expected, and went further by raising its 2026 earnings outlook. Against that, Dominion's decision to hold its ranges looks cautious. The test is whether a revenue beat of this size carries through the fourth quarter and justifies a move up the range.
