Iran's state broadcaster IRIB reports that an oil tanker hit a mine in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday morning. Iran's Revolutionary Guards Navy says three tankers caught fire after hitting mines. A separate vessel was reported on fire off Khasab on Wednesday, October 28.
The US military says the main transit routes through the strait are clear of mines. US Central Command says all internationally recognized primary transit routes have been cleared of sea mines by US forces and remain so.
Talks to reopen the strait have stalled. Iranian state TV says the US blockade of Iran must be lifted first. Mediators and Iran are discussing a Turkey meeting before November 4, Al Arabiya reports. Axios, citing US and Israeli officials, reports that they expect a week-long bombing of Iran if there is no deal.
Saudi October shipping volumes nearly matched September. The Gulf premium that the strait risk had carried has fallen from $34 to about $6 a barrel.
