Samsung is scheduled to release preliminary third-quarter earnings guidance on October 8, according to Reuters and Sammy Fans. A pre-earnings analyst consensus report cited by Kallabout.com had expected operating profit to surpass the company's second-quarter result of 89.4 trillion won by roughly 27%.
A year earlier, in the third quarter of 2025, Samsung reported operating profit of 12.17 trillion won, according to Reuters, as republished by mezha.net. A result near analyst expectations would still mark a roughly ninefold increase from that period, a measure of how sharply AI-driven memory demand has reshaped the company's earnings over the past year.
The timing matters. Samsung has spent the past month pitching itself as broadly positioned across AI infrastructure, from its stake in Mistral to a lithography tie-up with ASML and a KKR-backed investment. Any shortfall against analyst expectations would test that narrative, since it would suggest the memory and device businesses have not matched the profitability investors expect even as the company pursues capital-heavy diversification. The scrutiny follows a mid-September selloff that already raised questions about whether AI-driven memory demand justifies current spending plans, and it would make a harder case for the buyback and preferred-share discount strategy Samsung pitched earlier in September if results underwhelm rather than reinforce it.
