The Opener

Wednesday's softer close despite improving macro data carries into premarket Thursday, with the overnight session dominated by a sharp reversal in Corteva, which is plunging roughly 37.5% to $48.50, by far the largest move on the board and one that stands in contrast to the broad calm that defined the prior session.
Elsewhere, premarket action looks more constructive. A. O. Smith leads gainers, up 4.2%, with Constellation Energy extending its Wednesday strength, up 3.7%, and Rocket Lab adding another 3.2% after its after-hours gain. Synopsys and Credo Technology are both higher by roughly 2.6-2.7%. On the downside, Ferrovial is off 3.1%, Moderna is down 2.7%, and the VanEck Oil Services ETF and the Natural Gas ETF are each lower by more than 2%, pointing to continued softness in energy-linked names even as broader risk appetite holds up.
Policy headlines are piling up out of the White House overnight. Trump said on Truth Social that he is canceling nearly $1 billion in funding tied to immigration and race-focused programs via a new "pocket rescission," and separately claimed his administration has eliminated Biden-era fuel economy rules, asserting new cars will cost $1,300 less as a result. He also escalated rhetoric on Iran, saying the country's economy will have "nothing" left within two weeks, citing Treasury Secretary Bessent. On trade, Trump confirmed the $350 billion Korea Strategic Trade and Investment Deal with President Lee Jae Myung, detailing $200 billion in new US investment including a $120 billion nuclear buildout with eight reactors, a $50 billion Alaska LNG project, and a $22 billion gas plant in Encinal, Texas, reinforcing Wednesday's theme that trade diplomacy is still producing headline-sized figures. Separately, Trump praised Boeing and CEO Kelly Ortberg over the 737 Max's structural performance, calling it the finest commercial airliner in the sky.
None of this changes the underlying picture from Wednesday's close: macro data is improving and the Fed path is becoming more dovish, but equities are trading cautiously and selectively. The Corteva move will be the focus at the open, with traders looking for confirmation of what drove such an outsized swing against an otherwise mixed but orderly premarket tape.
