Binance co-founder Yi He says withdrawals will resume within 48 hours
It is the first end point given since the exchange halted all deposits and withdrawals, but it leaves open how much of the money that left its wallets comes back.
Binance co-founder Yi He says the exchange expects withdrawals to resume within 48 hours, the first concrete end point since it halted all deposits and withdrawals. Customers now have a date to hold the exchange to, and the story shifts from an open-ended inquiry to a question of delivery.
The promise comes from a co-founder, not from an official platform statement, and carries less weight than the exchange's own earlier statements on suspensions, deposits and loss coverage. Those said Binance would make users whole and was working with law enforcement as freezes continued.
A restart would fix the operational problem and nothing more. On-chain data showed $2.77 bln leaving Binance wallets across five blockchains, and at that stage nothing established that the exchange had been hacked. Tether froze $971 mln in USDT after the outflows, and Tether and Circle together froze about $1.8 bln. Binance now puts the frozen total at $2.54 bln and says more may follow, so the loss accounting runs on its own track and is still moving.
The suspension also reached well beyond Binance Alpha, which makes the 48 hours a test of how much of the platform comes back, not only when.
