Schneider National raises 2026 profit outlook despite missing third-quarter forecasts
A recovery in Truckload, where Network is back in profit, carries the higher range, while claim costs in Logistics are the drag on it.
Schneider National missed Wall Street's third-quarter numbers and raised its full-year profit forecast anyway, a combination that asks investors to look past the quarter and trust the months ahead.
The trucking and logistics group earned $0.29 a share, $0.01 short of expectations, on revenue of $1.59 billion against the $1.61 billion forecast. Yet it lifted its 2026 adjusted diluted earnings guidance to $1.00 to $1.10 a share. Management's own forecast is the bar here, and a raised one counts for more than a quarter that fell a little short.
The support for it is in Truckload. Earnings in that division more than doubled from a year earlier as Network, the part of the business that had been losing money, returned to profit, according to Jim Filter, the chief executive. That is the clearest operating reason to believe the higher range, since Truckload accounts for most of the quarter's improvement.
Logistics points the other way. Higher claim costs hurt its results, Filter said, and they are the item most likely to test the new range if they persist. A raise built on one division's recovery leaves little room for a second to disappoint.
Schneider also expects net capital expenditure of $325 million to $350 million this year, which shows how much it intends to keep reinvesting while it turns the Truckload gains into earnings. The board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.10 a share, payable January 12, 2027, to shareholders of record on December 11, 2026.
