Brinker International reported first-quarter earnings of $2.77 per diluted share, $0.30 above expectations. Revenue was $1.48 billion, compared with $1.47 billion expected.
Chief Executive Kevin Hochman credited the quarter to Chili's, which he described as a "flywheel of sustainable growth and market share gains." He pointed to investments in value, marketing and operations.
Brinker raised its fiscal 2027 total revenue forecast to $6.23 billion to $6.33 billion, up from $6.15 billion to $6.27 billion. It raised its forecast for net income per diluted share, excluding special items, to $13.30 to $13.90, up from $12.60 to $13.40.
The guidance carries more weight than the beat. Later quarters will show whether the higher outlook rests on more than this one period. In the quarter, the company bought back $125.0 million of its common stock. It also redeemed $350.0 million of 8.25% notes, paid for with its revolving credit facility, a loan it can draw on and repay as needed. That shifts the mix of its debt while cash still flows to shareholders.
