UKMTO reports that a tanker was hit by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, near Oman. The strike comes as the US and Iran give opposing accounts of traffic through the strait.
Trump and Rubio say transit is near or above pre-conflict levels. Iran's Fars news agency reported that Iran has stopped illicit vessel traffic through the strait. Crude flows through Hormuz have edged back toward pre-conflict levels, while diesel remains tight. Aramco says its Yanbu and Shaybah sites show no damage after weeks of mine strikes, fires and missile intercepts near the strait.
Iran's Foreign Minister, Araghchi, has said the strait was supposed to be fully open by now. Each timeline set so far has lapsed. Every national-level reopening proposal since late September has stalled over sequencing, with Tehran demanding the blockade lift first.
Isolated incidents near the strait have repeatedly failed to move measured shipping volumes. Whether this strike does so will depend on whether it causes damage or casualties.
