S&P 500 ETF is up 0.3% in the regular session, with a mixed picture beneath the surface. Technology Select leads the main sectors at +0.9%, followed by Industrials Select (+0.8%) and Health Care Select (+0.5%). Utilities Select and Consumer Staples Select each add 0.5% and 0.3% respectively, while Real Estate Select and Financials Select are roughly flat to slightly negative. Energy Select is the clear outlier, down 1.9%, with oil and gas exploration and production names hit hardest as crude falls sharply amid news that Saudi Arabia is seeking to resume roughly half of its East-West Pipeline capacity within days.
Within technology, the move is semiconductor-led. Intel (+5.0%), AMD (+3.8%), Western Digital (+3.3%), and Keysight (+3.1%) are the top performers in the sector. On the downside, First Solar (-5.0%), EPAM Systems (-3.5%), and IBM (-3.2%) stand out as the weakest names in the sector. In industrials, Axon Enterprise (+5.4%), Vertiv (+3.6%), and GE Aerospace (+3.3%) pace the sector's gains, while freight and transport names drag: J.B. Hunt is down 12.9%, and Old Dominion Freight, C.H. Robinson, and Knight-Swift each fall between 2.9% and 3.3%. In consumer discretionary, cruise lines and apparel names lead, including Tapestry (+3.4%), Wyndham Hotels (+3.0%), and Royal Caribbean (+2.7%), while Wynn Resorts (-2.1%) and Chipotle (-1.4%) lag. In financials, insurance and custody names edge higher while banks and payment processors weigh: Robinhood (-4.7%) and Coinbase (-4.2%) are the weakest in the sector.
Factor positioning shows momentum and high beta in favor. High Beta ETF leads at +1.3%, followed by iShares MSCI USA Momentum Factor ETF (+1.0%) and S&P MidCap Momentum ETF (+1.0%). Small cap momentum, via Invesco S&P SmallCap Momentum ETF, adds 1.3%. Growth factors are modestly positive while value is flat, with S&P 500 Value and Vanguard Russell 1000 Value ETF both at 0.0%. Dividend strategies are slightly negative.
Within the mega-cap growth cohort, AMD (+3.8%) and GE Aerospace (+3.3%) are the standouts to the upside. Nvidia (+1.4%), Oracle (+1.9%), and Stryker (+2.3%) also outperform. On the downside, ExxonMobil (-2.7%), Chevron (-2.2%), American Express (-2.3%), UPS (-2.6%), Adobe (-2.1%), and Intuit (-2.1%) are the weakest names in the cohort. Salesforce (-1.7%) and Accenture (-1.0%) also underperform.
Semiconductors are broadly bid, with iShares Semiconductor ETF up 1.6%, VanEck Semiconductor ETF +1.3%, and Semiconductor ETF +1.2%. Defense ETFs are also firm, with Defense ETF up 1.4% and Aerospace & Defense ETF up 1.0%, consistent with Japan's Defense Ministry announcing plans to purchase 52,000 drones and broader geopolitical tension headlines. Retail ETF adds 1.1%. On the downside, iShares U.S. Transportation ETF and Transportation ETF each fall 1.2%, consistent with the weakness in freight names. Oil & Gas E&P ETF drops 2.9%.
Among individual movers not already covered above, optical and connectivity names are the standout gainers, while energy and a freight name dominate the losers. Skyworks Solutions is the notable semiconductor loser in the bottom list, diverging from the broader semi rally.
