Strategy's board raised the spending limit on its digital credit securities repurchase program to $3.0 billion from $2.0 billion, effective October 19, 2026. As of October 18, $1.16 billion remained available under the expanded program.
During the week ended October 18, Strategy repurchased 1,938,780 shares of its STRC stock for $193.1 million. Separately, the company bought 267 bitcoin for $22.1 million over the same week, taking its total bitcoin holdings to 848,517 coins.
The pace of bitcoin buying has slowed sharply. On September 28, Strategy disclosed a week in which it bought 1,665 coins for $142.7 million, more than six times the dollar amount spent on bitcoin last week. That earlier buying was funded in part by common stock sales, which also supported preferred-share buybacks at the time. This week's update mentions no stock sale proceeds, only the larger repurchase ceiling with most of the new capacity still unused.
Bitcoin fell toward $81,384 during a selloff on October 12, a level below the average cost basis Strategy cited in its unaudited estimate of third-quarter gains on October 5. With the coin trading below that cost basis, the shift toward buying back STRC preferred shares rather than adding bitcoin points to a company managing its balance sheet rather than pressing ahead with accumulation for now.
