Paramount is moving to resolve outstanding lawsuits tied to its pursuit of Warner Bros. Discovery, a step that clears one of the last legal obstacles standing between the company and a deal.
California's attorney general has been working toward a settlement with Paramount. Paramount had been discussing a $1.5 billion investment in California as part of efforts to clear the way for the merger, before the state moved toward resolving its case.
New York attorney general Letitia James has been pushing for added worker protections and resisting the settlement terms Paramount has offered, according to CNN. It is not clear whether her objections have been addressed.
Clearing the legal hurdles removes a significant blocker that had stalled merger talks, making a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery look more viable than it did when California had walked away from negotiations. The shift, from regulatory impasse to active dealmaking, is constructive for the valuations of both companies.
