Xi and Trump to hold in-depth talks during Washington visit, Guo says

Xi and Trump are set to have an in-depth exchange of views during a visit, Guo said. The two leaders are due to meet in Washington on September 24.
Ahead of that meeting, Bessent met China's He Lifeng at JPMorgan and described the talks as "fulsome." The session was meant to set the stage for the Trump-Xi summit.
Nvidia's Jensen Huang, Apple's Tim Cook and OpenAI's Sam Altman are set to attend a state dinner with Trump and Xi.
Taken together, the planned Xi-Trump exchange, Bessent's parallel talks with He Lifeng and the state dinner point to a de-escalation in near-term trade tensions between the two countries. That would ease some of the tariff uncertainty that has weighed on markets recently, though it would not resolve the underlying disputes behind Trump's threatened new levies.
