President Trump said he is forming an AI Force, modeled on the Space Force he created during his first term, and said artificial intelligence could eventually account for 25% of US GDP. Trump made the comments alongside a plan, reported by Crypto Briefing, to appoint an AI czar to oversee the industry alongside the new force.
The idea builds on steps the administration has already taken. David Sacks served as White House AI and cryptocurrency czar from December 2024 until March 2026, a dual role that Crypto Briefing says offers a template for a centralized AI position. The administration also launched the United States Tech Force in December 2025, a program that recruits about 1,000 early-career technology workers into two-year government jobs to modernize federal IT systems and build AI capacity, according to Crypto Briefing and Wikipedia. Trump unveiled a broader AI Action Plan in July 2025, alongside the launch of the AI.gov website, according to Wikipedia.
The announcement comes as tech executives including Nvidia's Jensen Huang, Apple's Tim Cook and OpenAI's Sam Altman are set to attend a state dinner with Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, held amid US pressure on China over chip export limits, tariffs and rare earth supplies.
Trump's plan follows his earlier comments about naming an AI czar and fits with his broader push to position the US as the leading AI power, a push underscored by the tech executives' presence at the Xi dinner. A 25% share of GDP would mark a significant shift in the US economy if it happened, but markets have already been pricing in strength at mega-cap tech companies, so the announcement looks more like confirmation of that trend than a new trigger for it.
