The guest list also includes Treasury officials and the administration's AI policy adviser, according to earlier confirmation of the event. Treasury Secretary Bessent is separately set to discuss AI and rare earths with a Chinese Vice Premier over the weekend.
The dinner comes amid pressure from multiple directions. House China Panel Chair Moolenaar is pressing Trump to tighten AI chip export limits on China. Beijing has called the relationship "constructively stable." US carmakers, dealers and suppliers have sent a letter seeking a ban on Chinese imports, noting Cook's plans to dine with Trump and Xi. Nvidia, meanwhile, has committed $2 billion to the Brookfield AI Fund as part of a string of infrastructure deals, with Huang forecasting a doubling of chip sales next year.
The presence of major AI executives alongside Treasury officials signals continued high-level engagement on the sector during US-China talks, but it offers no new detail on export controls or deal terms. Chip export restrictions remain the central unresolved question, and the dinner does not clarify where Trump will land on tightening them.
