Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said the Togo-flagged tanker Trend was hit and stopped after catching fire while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz. The force warned that vessels crossing without authorization will face destruction.
UK Maritime Trade Operations reported a security incident 16 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman, in a waterway it has placed under a severe threat warning. UKMTO has said threat levels in the strait remain severe, with an explosion hitting the strait on Thursday as talks with Iran stay on hold and Tehran claims what it calls "intelligent control" of the waterway.
Diplomatic talks with Iran are on hold, and Tehran has claimed control over the strait, leaving shipping timelines unclear. President Trump told Axios he is weighing resuming large-scale attacks to end the war with Iran, saying he is at a turning point in the conflict.
The strike is the latest in a run of incidents in the strait since UKMTO's severe warning took hold. With supply risks already priced in as elevated and uncertainty over the conflict's endgame driving oil volatility, a single tanker strike on current momentum does not materially shift the risk calculus for markets that have absorbed repeated incidents over recent weeks.
