Winbond, already the leading supplier of Serial NOR Flash memory, is the buyer.

Infineon has agreed to sell its NOR Flash and F-RAM memory operations to Winbond for $1.12 billion.
Winbond has held the top position in the global Serial NOR Flash market by both revenue and unit share since 2012, according to the company's own figures. Adding Infineon's NOR and F-RAM lines extends that lead rather than introducing a new competitor to the market.
For Infineon, the sale continues a reshaping of its portfolio toward automotive and power businesses, the direction it has taken in recent deals including the $2.5 billion sale of its Automotive Ethernet business. Shedding the legacy memory operations fits that same trajectory rather than pointing to any new pressure on demand or margins.
The deal is best read as portfolio tidying on both sides. Winbond consolidates supply in a market it already leads, and Infineon sheds assets outside its focus areas, with neither move expected to alter the broader supply-demand balance in memory.
