In pre-market trading, the S&P 500 ETF is up 0.2%, with a quiet, narrow tone across most sectors. Technology leads at +0.6%, driven by broad strength in semiconductors and hardware. Financials are up 0.1%, with Blackstone the standout at +0.9%. Health Care and Consumer Staples are each slipping 0.1%, and Energy is the weakest main sector at -0.3%, with most large-cap names in the red.
Within Technology, semiconductor and storage names are pulling the sector higher, while software names including Salesforce (-0.8%), Accenture (-0.7%), and Microsoft (-0.3%) are a drag. Intel leads the sector at +4.8%, with SK hynix (+3.6%), Lam Research (+2.0%), KLA Corp (+1.8%), and Applied Materials (+1.6%) all sharply higher. In Industrials, J.B. Hunt is the clear outlier, down 8.8% and extending losses flagged in overnight tape.
Among factors, Mega Cap Growth ETF is the top performer at +0.7%, followed by S&P 500 Momentum at +0.5%. Dimensional Emerging Markets Value ETF is also up 0.6%. Most other factors are flat to slightly positive, with small caps essentially unchanged.
Within the mega-cap growth cohort, semiconductor-linked names lead: Lam Research (+2.0%), KLA Corp (+1.8%), Applied Materials (+1.6%), and AMD (+1.5%) are the clear outperformers. On the downside, ServiceNow (-1.5%), Intuit (-1.2%), Salesforce (-0.8%), and Adobe (-0.7%) stand out as the weakest names in the cohort, reflecting pressure across software.
Semiconductor ETFs confirm the sector's strength: the iShares Semiconductor ETF is up 1.5% and the VanEck Semiconductor ETF is up 1.3%. Biotech is modestly positive, with both the Biotech ETF (IBB) and XBI Biotech ETF gaining 0.6% and 0.3% respectively. The Defense ETF adds 0.2% and the Uranium ETF is up 0.3%. On the downside, the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF drops 0.6%, consistent with the software weakness seen in the mega-cap cohort, and the Oil & Gas E&P ETF falls 0.4%.
Among individual movers, optical and storage names are standing out to the upside alongside the semiconductor theme, while the bottom of the list is clustered in software and analytics names.
