OpenAI weighs funding round at $1.2 trillion valuation ahead of IPO
The talks come as OpenAI keeps building toward a public listing it has said will not happen before 2027.

OpenAI is discussing a new funding round that would value the company at $1.2 trillion, according to the Financial Times.
The FT did not specify who would take part in the round or how much OpenAI is seeking to raise. OpenAI has not commented on the report.
The figure marks another jump for a company that has repeatedly reset the benchmark for private valuations. Chief executive Sam Altman has said an IPO will not happen before 2027, and that OpenAI is willing to slow development of its most advanced models for safety reasons. A round at this size is consistent with that timeline: it would keep the company well funded while it works through regulatory discussions and builds out enterprise revenue, which management says is accelerating. For now, investors are being asked to price a company still years from going public, on the strength of appetite for AI infrastructure rather than any change in OpenAI's stated plans.
