Oman Foreign Minister Discusses De-Escalation With Rubio In Call
Published
Oman's foreign minister spoke by phone with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about de-escalation efforts, as tensions over shipping security in the Strait of Hormuz continue.
The call comes amid ongoing contacts between Oman, Iran and Gulf states aimed at easing regional tensions. No agreement or new measures were announced.
Oman has served as a mediator between Washington and Tehran in past disputes, including over the strait, a route for a large share of the world's seaborne oil trade. Continued diplomatic contact does not itself resolve the underlying dispute over shipping security, which remains unsettled.
