ABS-CBN to cut 200 jobs, about 7% of its workforce
The reduction is roughly double the scale of last year's retrenchment round.

ABS-CBN plans to retrench 200 employees, cutting its workforce by about 7%.
The move follows a smaller round in October 2024, when the broadcaster cut around 100 employees, about 3% of staff at the time, citing industry-wide declines in advertising revenue and the pay TV business, according to a company statement cited by Rappler. Before that round, ABS-CBN employed roughly 3,300 people, about 30% of its pre-shutdown workforce, Rappler reported.
That earlier cut helped narrow ABS-CBN's net loss by 55% last year, as production costs and other expenses came down. This year's reduction is about double the size, even though the company's expenses already fell 18% in 2025. Revenue fell 9% over the same period, suggesting the earlier cost cuts have not been enough to offset a shrinking core business.
A deeper round of layoffs, coming after cost controls alone failed to close the gap, points to pressure on the business itself rather than just its expense line, a distinction that matters for anyone weighing whether ABS-CBN's turnaround is durable or dependent on further cuts.
