Stifel Financial posts third-quarter profit below estimates
Revenue came in at $1.43 billion as investment banking activity continued to lag wealth management

Stifel Financial reported third-quarter earnings of $1.46 per share, $0.08 below what analysts had expected. Revenue for the quarter was $1.43 billion.
Chairman and CEO Ronald Kruszewski said the firm's investments drove operating efficiencies and that its diversified business model and disciplined capital management position it to keep compounding shareholder value.
The board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.34 per common share. Stifel also repurchased $124.0 million of common stock during the quarter, or 1.6 million shares, at an average price of $76.95, and announced a strategic investment in Meow Technologies.
The shortfall confirms a soft patch the firm flagged in August, when management guided to roughly flat revenue as weakness in its Institutional Group offset growth in wealth management. An $0.08 miss suggests the drag from lower transactional and investment banking revenue was steeper than that flat framing implied, even as fee-based client assets kept climbing. The dividend and buyback suggest management is treating the Institutional Group slump as cyclical rather than structural, and the stake in Meow Technologies is a small diversification step that does not offset the core earnings miss.
