US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Russian investment envoy Kirill Dmitriev on Thursday, CNN reported.
Dmitriev traveled to Washington for fresh talks with the Trump administration this week, arriving after Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in New York. The Kremlin has said conditions for peace talks are not yet ready, and has said it wants a full settlement rather than a ceasefire.
The meeting fits a pattern of Trump administration engagement with Russia on settlement terms, with Witkoff and Kushner now meeting Dmitriev directly after months of diplomatic signals. It marks no shift in either side's stated positions. Russia continues military operations and resource cuts for an extended conflict, and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky remains dismissive of near-term peace prospects. For now, the encounter is neutral pending any substantive outcome.
