BlackRock's infrastructure arm has spent the past year assembling one of the largest data center portfolios in finance.
A BlackRock-led consortium closed its $40 billion purchase of Aligned Data Centers from Macquarie Asset Management in July 2026, according to D Magazine, months after the deal was first announced as the largest data center transaction on record, according to w.media. BlackRock's Global Infrastructure Partners unit also formed a roughly $2.33 billion joint venture with ACS in November 2025 to build and manage data centers, w.media reported, and in July 2026 BlackRock raised $12.5 billion in debt to finance a Meta data center, according to Bloomberg.
The pattern reflects a broader shift at BlackRock toward infrastructure and alternative assets, one that has also shown up in its recent push into private credit and structured products. Deals still being negotiated carry execution risk and, unlike the transactions BlackRock has already closed, do not add to near-term earnings until they are signed and funded.
