Xi says he expects US visit to produce 'fruitful results'
China's leader arrives in Washington a day ahead of his meeting with Donald Trump, with a trade truce and seized F-35 parts on the agenda

Xi added that the historical logic of peaceful coexistence between China and the US has not changed, and said he is confident the two countries can find the right way to get along in the new era. He said the two should be partners, not rivals, and should work toward a relationship featuring cooperation as the mainstay, moderate competition and manageable differences.
Xi Jinping said he is confident his trip to the United States will produce fruitful results, speaking as he arrived in Washington a day ahead of his meeting with Donald Trump.
The two leaders are expected to discuss the temporary trade truce between the two countries, which expires on November 10, along with the return of seized F-35 fighter jet parts.
The visit follows a meeting between Treasury Secretary Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, after which Bessent said Washington was open to either extending the current arrangement or negotiating a larger trade deal.
Xi's remarks come as Senate Democrats press Majority Leader Thune for votes on a set of China-focused chip export bills, including the AI Overwatch Act, the Match Act and the Chip Security Act. Coming from Beijing just as those votes are being pushed, the conciliatory tone points toward an extension of the truce rather than a slide into new tariffs when it lapses next month, and toward negotiation over confrontation in the days ahead.
