Zelenskiy said Trump did not ask Ukraine to unilaterally halt strikes on Russian energy infrastructure. He said the two discussed an energy ceasefire, not a one-sided halt, at their Tuesday meeting.
Volodymyr Zelenskiy says he and Donald Trump discussed an energy ceasefire and ways to end the war, and that Ukraine is ready for any format of agreement. He said he hopes the United States can bring Russia into negotiations.
Zelenskiy also raised winter preparations, asking for a winter package of Patriot missiles. He said Ukraine needs licenses to produce Patriots itself, along with security guarantees.
Trump says he and Zelenskiy are working on a plan to end the war, and that he will discuss Patriot missile production with him. Trump has also said he talks frequently with Vladimir Putin about a deal. Marco Rubio is due to meet Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov in New York on September 23. Separately, the European Union has agreed to drop Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman from its Russia sanctions list, while extending sanctions on roughly 3,000 other Russian-linked individuals and entities for three years, Reuters reported via 93.3 The Drive.
Zelenskiy's openness to talks and his explicit request for winter military aid line up with Trump's stated goal of ending the war quickly. But there is no sign that Russia has moved toward actual negotiations, which keeps the diplomatic track in neutral territory. The energy ceasefire proposal and the push for Patriot production licenses are constructive framings, yet the distance between that positioning and any concrete settlement remains wide.
