Volodymyr Zelenskiy met CIA Director John Ratcliffe in Ireland, according to sources.
The meeting comes days before Zelenskiy is due to meet Donald Trump in New York, a trip the two leaders agreed to arrange, Zelenskiy has said. Zelenskiy has also said Ukraine is ready for an unconditional ceasefire.
Other diplomatic moves are also underway. Turkey has said it sent Ukraine and Russia a proposal to end fighting in the Black Sea and is waiting for a response from both sides.
The meeting points to continued US intelligence engagement with Ukraine while diplomatic channels stay active. Taken with the recent series of peace overtures, Trump's stated willingness to engage and the EU's strengthened support commitments, it fits the existing expectation of eventual negotiations rather than changing it.
