Ukraine is ready for an unconditional ceasefire and for diplomacy to resolve the war, Zelenskyy said in an interview with CBC.
The comment comes as Zelenskyy prepares to meet Trump in New York, a meeting the two agreed to hold. Zelenskyy has also said Russia must stop targeting Ukraine's energy sector.
Other diplomatic efforts are also in motion. Turkey has sent Ukraine and Russia an offer to end fighting in the Black Sea and is waiting for both sides to respond. Trump has said Russia has lost control of its own diesel industry because of the war and has called for the war to end, citing casualties of around 25,000 people a month, mostly soldiers. Russia, meanwhile, is set to extend its diesel export ban past September.
Zelenskyy's openness to talks without preconditions points to a possible shift toward a diplomatic resolution, coming as Russia's energy infrastructure faces mounting pressure and Trump signals willingness to engage.
