US Trade Representative Greer said Boeing is making progress on finalizing an order for 200 airplanes from China, a deal announced earlier this year, in an interview with Fox.
Greer's comments come as Washington and Beijing work through a broader set of trade issues. The US has proposed extending the China tariff truce by six months, while China is pushing for a longer extension. Greer has also said there is no broad China deal yet, though rare earths are flowing, just not in the volumes Washington wants.
The two sides have kept talking on other fronts too. Treasury Secretary Bessent called weekend trade and AI talks with China's He Lifeng a success and said both sides agreed to meet again on AI. China's government said it will work with the US to manage differences following those talks. Greer has separately said the US and China continue discussing a board-of-trade agreement likely to cover consumer goods and low-tech items from China.
Movement on the Boeing order marks a shift from announcement to execution, coming as the two governments work through rare earths, AI and trade issues at the same time. Progress on a concrete commercial deal, even without a broader agreement, supports Boeing's near-term revenue outlook and points to both sides choosing managed engagement over escalation.
