Daimler Truck reports clearly higher quarterly profit as US business turns round, Handelsblatt says
Sentiment in the North American market has improved, setting the truck maker apart from the German carmakers that issued four profit warnings this week.
Handelsblatt reports that Daimler Truck's profit for the quarter was clearly higher, helped by a turnaround in the US, where sentiment in the market has improved.
That runs against the week's German auto news. Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have issued four profit warnings, tied to the cost of electric vehicles in Europe and a collapse in their combustion-engine business in China. Daimler Truck sells commercial vehicles and is exposed to North America in particular. Its improvement suggests the US freight and truck cycle is moving apart from the pressures on the passenger-car makers.
The unit sales had already pointed that way. Daimler Truck said on October 8 that Trucks North America sold 45,629 vehicles in the third quarter, up 51% from 30,225 a year earlier. Group sales were 91,260, against 72,277.
Management had also raised its own forecast. On August 7 Daimler Truck lifted its 2026 range for group adjusted EBIT to €3.6-4.1 billion, from €3.2-3.7 billion, and tied the change to US Department of Commerce approval of its US Content application and to higher North American sales. Chief executive Karin Rådström cited higher unit sales and a lower tariff impact for the rest of the year.
