US private sector hiring rose at an average weekly pace of 24,750 in the four weeks to September 26, according to ADP data. That is up from 23,750 in the prior reading and from 16,250 in late August.
The climb has been gradual rather than sharp. Weekly hiring still runs below the 38,000 pace recorded in August, leaving open the question of whether labor demand is genuinely tightening or merely stabilizing at a slower rate.
With official payrolls data scarce, the ADP series is carrying more weight than usual as a gauge of labor conditions heading into the next Federal Reserve policy meeting. The pace of improvement so far looks incremental rather than a reacceleration, which keeps the broader labor market narrative on the same slow-improvement track instead of forcing a reassessment of rate expectations.
