ADP weekly hiring gauge rises for third straight week, series shows
The measure tracks a four-week moving average and sits well below August's pace

The figure is a four-week moving average built from ADP payroll data and is separate from ADP's monthly National Employment Report.
ADP Research said hiring accelerated for a third consecutive week as of the four weeks ending September 5, when the average stood at 20,000, up from 16,750 the period before, according to ADP Research and PRNewswire. The monthly ADP report, a distinct series, showed September payrolls up 90,000 against a forecast of 73,000, after an August reading of 38,000, according to Investing.com's economic calendar.
The climb extends a gradual firming that began after the four-week pace bottomed near 16,250 in late August, pointing to stabilization rather than a renewed slowdown in private hiring. The move is incremental, not the kind of acceleration that would force a rethink of Fed policy expectations, and weekly hiring still runs well below August's 38,000 monthly pace, so the broader question about underlying labor demand remains open. The data keeps the labor market narrative on a slow-improvement track rather than resolving it.
