Strategy estimates a $20.91 billion gain on digital assets for the three months ended September 30, 2026, with the carrying value of its holdings reaching $70.82 billion as of that date. The company expects an associated deferred tax expense of $1.88 billion for the quarter.
That figure is far lower than Strategy had previously projected. A $4.12 billion deferred tax asset recorded as of June 30, 2026 was reversed after the fair value of its bitcoin rose above its cost basis, cutting the estimated deferred tax expense from roughly $6.00 billion to $1.88 billion.
As of October 4, 2026, Strategy held 848,000 bitcoin at an aggregate purchase price of $63.97 billion. That is essentially unchanged from the 847,666 bitcoin the company disclosed a week earlier, on September 28.
Strategy says its independent auditor, KPMG, has not audited or reviewed these figures, meaning the $20.91 billion gain is a mark-to-market snapshot rather than a confirmed result. The swing in the deferred tax estimate reflects fair value accounting tied to bitcoin's price recovery above cost basis, not any change in operating performance, and the numbers give no indication of whether the pace of accumulation, or the STRC repair effort that followed Michael Saylor's resumed buying on September 21, will continue into the next quarter.
