The UK Maritime Trade Operations centre (UKMTO) reported an incident on Monday 11 nautical miles north of Khasab, Oman, a stretch of the Strait of Hormuz that ships use to enter and leave the Gulf.
A similar report came from the same stretch of water on September 17, when UKMTO said an incident occurred 16 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, according to Iran International, which cited UKMTO.
UKMTO has issued dozens of such reports from the corridor since September. None so far has come with confirmed damage or a halt in tanker transits, and shipping through the strait has continued without interruption. Diplomatic contacts among Oman, Iran, the US and Gulf states remain active but have not produced a resolution.
For now, the Monday report reads as another entry in that run of unconfirmed flags rather than a new escalation. Traders and insurers watching Hormuz have treated these reports as adding to the standing risk premium on tanker traffic through the strait, not as evidence of a shift in the flow of oil.
