Air Liquide has announced a share buyback program worth 4 billion euros, to run across 2027 and 2028.
The company's previous buyback authorization, approved at its shareholders' meeting on May 6, 2025, covered up to about 57,825,926 shares, roughly 10% of its share capital, as part of a wider capital-management plan that also included dividends and acquisitions, according to ad-hoc-news.de. Air Liquide reported sales of around 26.9 billion euros for 2025, the site said.
About 33 days before this announcement, Bernstein analysts said Air Liquide likely had room for a buyback as large as 6 billion euros, according to Market Talk, cited by Bitget. The new program is smaller than that estimate.
By setting the buyback across two future years rather than one, Air Liquide is signalling a multi-year commitment rather than a single capital return. Announcing it this far in advance gives management room to continue investing in hydrogen and industrial gas capacity without having to choose between that spending and returning cash to shareholders. The scale and duration also suggest confidence that free cash flow will hold steady through the period, since committing so far ahead leaves less room to adjust if earnings or cash flow fall short before the program begins.
