Saudi-led coalition forces intercepted two Houthi ballistic missiles on Thursday, one over Khamis Mushait and one over Jazan, along with four drones over Khamis Mushait, Arab News reported, citing Saudi civil defense.
Debris from one of the intercepted missiles fell on residential areas of Khamis Mushait, damaging several buildings and vehicles, the civil defense statement said. No casualties were reported, according to Arab News.
The Houthis have stepped up missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia in recent weeks, targeting cities and energy infrastructure across the kingdom, Arab News reported. Khamis Mushait has been targeted repeatedly in recent weeks, including interceptions on September 14 and September 10 that caused no reported damage, and on September 26, when two drones toward Riyadh and two ballistic missiles toward Khamis Mushait were intercepted without damage or casualties, according to migflug.com, citing Euronews and The National. On September 8, Houthi attacks on Abha, Jizan, Najran and Khamis Mushait wounded 73 people and set fires at oil facilities and utilities in southern Saudi Arabia, according to a Wikipedia summary of 2026 events in Yemen.
Thursday's debris damage breaks from the pattern of clean intercepts that Saudi air defenses had maintained at Khamis Mushait through most of September. The recurrence of attacks shows the Houthis remain willing to keep testing Saudi defenses even as diplomatic channels around a truce and infrastructure repairs continue. But the damage reported Thursday was to residential buildings and vehicles, not to production or loading facilities, so on its own it does not point to a shift in Saudi export flows or pipeline operations, which have been the actual driver of recent crude moves.
