The S&P 500 ETF slips 0.5% as financials and consumer discretionary lead losses. XLF falls 0.9% with Blackstone down 2.9% and Aon down 2.7% at the back of the group, while XLY drops 1.0% and Tesla falls 3.4% within it. XLK declines 0.7%, dragged by Qualcomm down 6.1% and Intel down 6.0%, even as Nvidia gains 2.3%. XLI loses 0.7% with Boeing down 4.4%. XLV, XLE and XLP are the only sectors higher, up 0.3%, 0.3% and 0.2% respectively, though Regeneron sheds 4.4% within health care. XLU falls 0.6%, with Portland General down 6.0%, and XLB falls 0.5% as Newmont drops 4.1%.
High beta and momentum factors are hit hardest, with SPHB down 1.5% and SPMO down 1.2%, while value and growth move together near -0.5% to -0.6%.
Within mega-cap growth, Intuitive Surgical and Nvidia lead gainers, up 2.5% and 2.3%, while Qualcomm, Regeneron, AMD and Meta Platforms lag, down between 3.9% and 6.1%.
Semiconductor-linked ETFs are weak, with XSD down 2.0% and SOXX down 2.1%, alongside XME down 2.4% and defense-linked ITA down 1.6%. XBI outperforms, up 1.1%.
Gold, silver and natural gas ETFs are sharply lower, with GLD down 3.6% and SLV down 4.7%; UNG falls 4.1% as natural gas futures decline more than 5% on contract expiry and a West Virginia pipeline return boosting output expectations.
Individual moves are steep on both sides, with software names among the gainers and semiconductor and consumer names among the losers.
